Making good use of where I am
Sometimes, the grass really does look greener on the other side.
Last year, I got an opportunity to work from Bangalore.
After years of working remotely, everything felt new — the office, the city, tech events, meeting people, weekend trips, even the Bangalore rains.
Later, I decided to move back to my hometown.
Partly because of personal responsibilities, and partly because I realized I needed something I wasn't getting enough of:
Time and peace to learn.
So I built myself a small workspace — a monitor, a desk, keyboard, mouse — and started learning again.
And honestly, I've learned a lot in these months.
But every once in a while, Bangalore starts looking attractive again.
That small 1BHK. The roads. The buildings. The tech ecosystem. The monsoon. The feeling that something was always happening around you.
Then there are evenings like today.
I take my bike to the nearby market, come back to cool winds, a cloudy sky and lightning in the distance.
No commute. No rush.
And I think I've finally understood something.
Maybe there isn't one place where we're supposed to be forever.
Different phases of life ask different things from us.
Sometimes you need movement, exposure and new experiences.
Sometimes you need to be close to home.
Sometimes you simply need a quiet desk and enough time to become better at what you do.
Working from home is a privilege I currently have, and rather than constantly wondering whether I should be somewhere else, I want to make good use of this phase.
Learn. Build. Take care of my responsibilities. Enjoy the quiet.
The next chapter will come when it comes.
We don't always need to know what the future holds to make good use of where we are today.
