Learning and applying in parallel

For the past few months, I’ve been focused on learning and relearning.

JavaScript, React, Node.js, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Kafka, AWS, Terraform, Jenkins—and several other areas where I knew I needed stronger fundamentals.

During this process, I realised how easy it is to look at other people’s careers and compare outcomes.

Some people seem to progress faster. Some find better opportunities earlier. Some appear to receive greater returns with less visible effort.

But we rarely know the complete story behind someone else’s progress.

Everyone is finding their own path, solving their own problems, and fighting battles that may not be visible from the outside.

Their journey is not competing with mine.

My responsibility is to focus on what I can control:

Learn. Prepare. Apply. Stay consistent. Protect my time. Keep moving forward.

There is also a balance between applying early and being prepared.

You should not wait forever to feel completely ready. But when you are aware of genuine gaps in your knowledge, working on them is not always procrastination. Sometimes, it is necessary preparation.

The important thing is to make sure preparation does not become a permanent excuse to avoid taking action.

So the approach I’m following now is simple:

Learn and apply in parallel.

There will always be uncertainty—about opportunities, interviews, timing, and outcomes.

But on the brighter side, I know I’ll overcome it.

Not through comparison or impatience.

Through preparation, consistency, and action.
