It’s all me

Good men like me often think they are sacred.

They think they cannot do any wrong to anyone.

They are the merciful ones. The harmless ones. The innocent ones.

Because in their own heads, they are great.

But sometimes, the same “good” person commits wrong.

Not always because he is evil. Sometimes because he is blinded by lust. Sometimes because he wants to punish someone who made a mistake. Sometimes because he takes a harsh decision in the name of doing a “greater right thing.”

And after doing it, he goes back to being good again.

Because in his mind, he was always good. Always merciful. Always innocent.

But this is where the real problem starts.

If a person wants to correct himself, he has to look closely.

He has to believe:

“I am the one who did it.”

Not some other version of me. Not some temporary possession. Not some excuse. Not some anger, lust, revenge, or situation.

Me.

He has to look into the mirror and face himself.

He has to shatter his own innocence. His self-perception. His idea that he is only harmless.

He has to gulp the fact that the same innocent person also has lust. The same merciful person also has anger. The same good person also has the desire to see someone burn.

Until both these identities are merged and accepted, there is no real relief from yourself.

Because the enemy is not always outside.

Sometimes the enemy is the part of you that you refuse to call yours.

Defeat your own enemy first. Then make peace with it.
